The 2013 Backpacker Bushwhacker AR

DATE: is September 22nd

LOCATION: The Backpacker, Lafayette, LA

TIME: 8:30 am

Race Overview:

Team Backpacker Adventure Racing is at it again! Come out and join us for the fourth annual Backpacker Bushwhacker Adventure Race. The course is designed for solo competitors or teams of two, three, or four members and features trail running, a professional ropes course, mountain biking, paddling, and some pretty basic orienteering. Of course, we will throw in a few unexpected challenges along the way. If you competed in any of our first three events, you probably think that you know what to expect. Well, you don’t. This is an all new course in an all new venue for 2013 and it’s made up of all the things we love – and hate – about adventure racing.

Watch this website for additional information. We will be updating this page periodically.

When:

Sunday, September 22 at 8:30 a.m.

Where:

The Start and Finish will take place at the The Backpacker Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Course Design:

The course will include 5-9 miles of running, 11-18 miles of mountain biking, 5-8 miles of paddling, a ropes course, and some other really cool special tests along the way.

Each team member must provide their own mountain bike and a CPSC approved helmet. We will provide boats (kayaks and canoes), paddles, PFDs (life jackets), and any required climbing gear, such as harnesses, slings, ropes, carabiners, etc. If you like, you may provide your own kayaks or canoes, paddles, and PFDs. Please let us know, via e-mail, as soon as possible if you will bring your own. Any additional information you might need, including descriptions of gear or equipment, whether required or recommended, will be detailed in the Pre-Race Letter to be posted here and e-mailed to each team in the last couple of days leading up to the race. That letter will contain important information, so read it carefully.

  1. Do you provide kayaks? Do all members of the team perform all activities? Is the running scattered throughout or all at once?

  2. Clifford Johnson

Will this be a mostly urban race, or will there be plenty trails and off-road?

  3. It states that it starts and ends at Backpacker in Lafayette, but the registration page talks about Chicot. Which is correct?

  4. Is the race closer to 5 miles or 9 miles of running. I can handle the bike ride and the paddling, I’m not so sure about the running. Do some people walk or do they mostly run. I’m in Lafayette, LA

  5. How intense is the mountain biking portion of the race?
